How to find jobs in your city
Published on October 7, 2026Updated on October 7, 2026
Looking for a job in your own city is the most common path, and also the one that benefits most from a method. Instead of looking at jobs one by one at random, it pays to have a routine: define what you are looking for, use the filters well, keep your profile up to date and watch out for signs of scams. This guide shows how to do that on Lupa Vagas.
Start by defining what you are looking for
Before searching, answer three questions: which job titles match your experience, in which city (or nearby cities) you can work, and which type of contract you accept. Write down two or three similar job titles, because the same role can appear under different names. Someone who searches only for "administrative clerk" may miss jobs called "administrative assistant", for example.
Search by job title and city
In the Lupa Vagas job search, type the job title or the company name in the search field and the city or state abbreviation (UF) in the location field. Try variations of the title and also the city alone, to see everything that is open in the region. Lupa Vagas also has listings organized by city and by job title, which help you discover similar jobs and other nearby cities with open opportunities.
Use the filters that exist
Besides title and location, the search lets you refine results:
- Employment type: full time, part time, contract or internship.
- Salary range: minimum and maximum salary, to see only what fits your situation.
- City and state: to limit the search to the region where you can work.
Each job page also shows the work model (on-site, hybrid or remote), the salary when the company provides it, the requirements and until when the job is valid. Read everything before applying. If a job is remote, it may be a good option even if the company is in another city.
Complete your profile for matching
Lupa Vagas calculates how well your profile matches each job and shows the best-fitting opportunities first. For this to work well, create your account and fill in your profile carefully: city and state, experience, education, courses, skills and salary expectation. An incomplete profile gives a less accurate match. Update your profile whenever you have a new experience or course.
Build a search routine
Most jobs stay open for a limited time, and those who apply early usually have an advantage. Set a fixed time, such as a few minutes a day, to repeat your searches and see what is new. Apply only to jobs you really want and whose main requirements you meet; adjust your resume to what each job asks for. Follow the progress of your applications on your dashboard and note where you have already applied. Lupa Vagas does not send automatic job alerts, so the routine is yours to keep.
Go beyond the website
Combine online search with other approaches: tell friends, family and former colleagues that you are looking; keep your resume at hand to send it quickly; and, if available in your city, look for employment agencies, job fairs and public job-placement programs. Many opportunities come through referrals.
Beware of scams
Unfortunately, fake ads exist. Be suspicious and do not move forward when:
- the job asks the candidate for any payment, whether for registration, training, uniform, materials or a "selection fee";
- the promised salary is far above the market for simple work with no requirements;
- the conversation happens only on a messaging app, with no verifiable information about the company;
- they ask for passwords, verification codes, bank details or copies of documents in the very first contact;
- the ad has many mistakes or does not say what the company does.
Serious companies do not charge candidates. If you find a suspicious job on Lupa Vagas, let us know through the contact page. For questions about how the site works, see the FAQ.
